Tony & Jessica – Engagement & Wedding – February 25, 2012

Tony & Jess both grew up in Germany, but it wasn’t until they’d moved to Cheney, WA that they met for the first time.

On May 24th, 1998, while decorating the music room for their band director’s birthday at Cheney Middle School, their eyes first met. From then on, they were the best of friends, and even had quite a few classes together. For Mol Day in their high school chemistry class, they both dressed up as moles.

In band, they sat next to each other; Tony playing the tenor saxophone and Jessica- the bassoon.  They even went to school dances together.  The two were practically inseparable.

After high school Jessica and Tony parted ways.  Jessica attended Washington State University, while Tony chose Eastern Washington University.

It wasn’t until several years later that Jessica happened to go stop in at Pizza Hut where Tony was working.

They exchanged numbers…

and (a quick) six years later he proposed to her on top of Mt. Spokane.

From the bride:

“Schweitzer Mountain Resort in Sandpoint, ID was an easy decision for the wedding.  It was the only placed we looked at and it was an instant YES!  We planned for late February knowing there typically are no snowstorms that late into the year.  Ironically, we got somewhere around 32 inches of snow that weekend.

A German themed wedding was an obvious choice because it was something that both our families had in common.  Our ‘Save The Date’ postcard with an old picture of Oktoberfest on it was designed so well that my Grandmother threw it in the trash thinking it was an advertisement for some Oktoberfest event!  Tony’s mom designed an emblem much like the Hofbräuhaus logo using our initials (B & B).

She designed our invitations, beer labels, and banners, and used that logo on EVERYTHING! My mom made all the center pieces with her collection of steins.  Our seating chart was arranged by German states, and my family sat at the state that they are from. At the end of each toast, the speaker said “Prost”, which is German for cheers.

As for the cake, Tony’s mom makes her famous beer cake for every holiday/birthday/get together, so naturally it made sense for her to do our wedding cake, too. It was such a huge hit, we packaged up left overs that guests took home with them!”
